Metropolitan Fire Protection, Inc. (MFP) recently completed a total sprinkler
system retrofit at O’Hare International Airport Terminal 2, bringing the project
in right on schedule. Working over a two-year period, MFP installed new piping
and commercial sprinklers throughout the massive building, including both
public spaces and operational areas, without disrupting normal activity at one
of the world’s busiest airports.
According to Brian Ferguson, Metropolitan Fire Protection executive vice
president, the company’s team of designers, engineers, and fitters worked
closely with architects and staff from F.H. Paschen, Inc. to develop and
carry out “a carefully choreographed plan” for the installation. Daryl Lesny,
a Paschen project manager assigned to the O’Hare Terminal 2 project, agreed.
“A job of this magnitude and complexity requires effort and commitment
from everyone involved,” said Lesny. “ Metropolitan Fire Protection was
willing to do whatever it took to meet our objectives — even when it meant
working through the night to complete important phases of the project so
that crucial airport operations were not impeded. Thanks to their efforts,
the project was completed on time and on budget.”
